Best practices when purchasing a second-hand Studer Innotec device
Best practices when purchasing a second-hand device from the xtender or vario family
Many devices manufactured by Studer can be found second-hand on the internet, resold by third parties. When you purchase a second-hand device, such as an xtender inverter-charger or a vario charge controller, it is necessary to carry out some checks and resets before putting the device into service.
- Before purchasing, check that the device is genuine and not a copy of our products. You can do this by checking for a hologram security label on the device (only if the product was manufactured after 2020). If there is no hologram on the device, you can ask the seller for the serial number and have it verified at info@studer-innotec.com. Our team will confirm whether it is an original device or not.
- Once you have received the device, you must reset it to factory settings. This step is essential to ensure that the device no longer has any settings from its previous installation in its configuration. To reset an xtender or vario device, you will need the rcc 02/03 accessory and an SD card, without the rcc02/03 remote control or the SD card, it is not possible to do the modification or the configuration of your devices. Ensure you have one available to perform the reset and software update steps:
- Download the latest update for your device from our downloads page. Unzip the downloaded ZIP file
- Format your SD card (the card must be an SD or SDHC card with a maximum capacity of 32GB) with the following format: FAT
- Copy the ‘02’ folder from the package to the root of the SD card.
- Rename this folder to ‘03’ on the SD card. This step tells your device that it needs to reset all the settings stored in its memory
- Wire your system following the instructions provided in your product manual or download it on our website download page.
- Connect the DC battery and let the system start up.
- Insert the SD card into the rcc, confirm the update / reset, and let it finish.
- The device is in its factory settings condition. Delete the “03” folder on your SD card.
- Your device can now be installed in a new system. If you are installing this device in an existing system, you will need to configure the correct
settings for your device and adapt them to suit your specific installation (more information on the user manual of your devices). If
you are a private customer, we recommend that you contact one of our partners, who will be able to assist you with this configuration process. - Once that the system is operating and configured, we advise to make a system backup “5041, Save all files (system backup)” on you rcc for backing up
your system configuration. This file can be used to recover your system settings in the event that a device is added or an improper manipulation is performed. You will find the information and instructions on how to perform this backup in the rcc02/03 manual.
